Northern Manhattan Minyan is a progressive, intergenerational, justice-oriented, anti-Zionist Jewish community in Manahahtaan, Lenapehoking. We gather on the first Friday of each month for kabbalat shabbat services, followed by a vegetarian potluck dinner. We are based in Central Harlem.
We are committed to dismantling racism, ableism, queer- and transphobia, and challenging ashkenormativity in Jewish spaces. We warmly welcome Jews of all backgrounds, interfaith families, queer and trans Jews, Jews of color and white Jews, disabled Jews and chronically ill Jews, secular Jews and religious Jews, those interested in converting, and anyone interested in participating in Jewish life. Join us!

Minhag
We hold songful kabbalat shabbat services in the traditional egalitarian style of the Ashkenazi rite. We use Siddur Chaverim Kol Yisrael which is transliterated line-by-line and has full Hebrew translation with gender neutral language. Our leadership and membership are primarily Ashkenazim (congruent with the demographics of the Jewish community in Manhattan) however we are interested in alternating with services in other traditions to better serve our Sephardi and Mizrahi community members. If you’re interested in chazzaning or helping us make this happen, please reach out at manhattanminyan@gmail.com.
Accessibility
High quality masks are required to attend indoor services. We provide extra masks at the door. Masks may be removed during eating and drinking. We run two ultra-HEPA air purifiers in the indoor space. Weather permitting, we host services and dinner in our outdoor space. Both spaces are accessible by wheelchair ramp and elevator. The dietary needs of our community are diverse and we strive to provide gluten-free, vegan, kosher, and allergy-free options at every meal. If you have any questions or accommodations requests, please email manhattanminyan@gmail.com.
Statement on Zionism
As anti-zionists, we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people for the liberation of Palestine from the River to the Sea, and heed the call for the right of return for all Palestinian refugees and reparations for the ongoing injustices of the Nakba. We seek to dismantle Zionist hegemony in Jewish communal life and uplift pre-Zionist and anti-Zionist Jewish traditions. Those who are questioning their relationship to Zionism are welcome to join our minyan, however we ask that you respect this is an anti-zionist space.
